Barmer

Barmer Tour

The city of Barmer, it is widely believed, has derived its name from its founder Bhada Rao, also popular as Bar Rao. The city is believed to have been developed in 13th century and is surrounded by barren land and inhospitable and harsh climatic conditions. However, this tough and unfriendly location of the city has failed to break the enthusiasm of people who take everything in their stride and remain undaunted.

The rich cultural heritage of the city is kept alive by today's generation who in many cases have carried the legacy forwards. The place is today renowned for beautifully carved wooden items, innovatively designed pots and vases, intricately designed and embroidered carpets and rugs and dyed and manually printed textiles of vivid colors. Sadar Bazar at Barmer is particularly famous for embroidered 'ghagras' and conventional costumes.

The temples at Barmer are celebrated pilgrimage centers and draw people from far and wide who frequent the place to offer their obeisance. In fact, a visit to Barmer remains largely incomplete till the time a customary visit to temples like Kiradu Temple, Khed Temple, Nakoda Temple, Viratramata Temple, Jogmaya Temple and Balark Temple is not undertaken.

Barmer Fort is another attraction of the city. Perched on a hill top, the fort has remained a witness to several important historical occurrences. Though it has lost its earlier charm and glory, yet it retains its attraction and is amongst one of the must visit places in Barmer.

Another range of attractions that elevates the position of Barmer amongst tourists are a number of fairs and festivals that adorn the landscape of the place. Some of the fairs and festivals of Barmer are Tilwara Cattle Fair, Barmer Thar Festival, the Veeratara Mela, the Khed mela and the Nakoda Parasvanath etc.

A number of quality hotels in and around Barmer allow the tourists an access to quality staying option and ensure that the visitors enjoy their visit to full and return home with loads of memorable moments.

Testimonial

I booked a travel package of Rajasthan for me and my friend. It was a 15 day trip of India's desert state. Most of the cities we visited were well connected with national highways, providing us the easy accessibility of various places. However, some areas were congested making for us difficult to reach on time that may be because of development works on going on places. We loved our heritage hotel stays at Jaipur and Udaipur. We enjoyed the excursions of remote villages and desert. Good execution of trip.
