Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal or Water Palace is situated in the center of Man Sagar Lake. The palace and the lake underwent renovation and were enhanced by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber. The palace is considered to be an architectural marvel which assimilates Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture.

Jal Mahal is constructed of red sandstone and is a five stories structure. The most baffling thing about the palace lies in the fact that the first four floors of it remain immersed in the water when the lake is full and still the place does not encounter much damage. The chattri, rectangular in shape, is of Bengal type.

The terrace of the palaces sports a garden which was constructed with arched passages. Each corner of the palace has semi-octagonal towers constructed with stylish cupola.

The palace offers wonderful views of the neighboring areas. Particularly the fort of Nahargarh appears to be at its best from Jal Mahal. The lake around the palace, on the other hand, is home to a number of migratory and resident birds.

Jal Mahal appears to be even more attractive at night. Taking a boat ride in the boats modeled on Rajput style in the lake surrounding the palace is an activity no one visiting the palace wants to miss. The whole area gets illuminated at night with attractive Aravali hills dotted with ancient temples on one side and the lively city of Jaipur on other.

The popularity of Jal Mahal can be gauged from the fact that it has remained a popular tourist spot for long now. Visitors to this place simply marvel at the finesse of exquisite Jal Mahal which always vows them.

Testimonial

I booked a travel package of Rajasthan for me and my friend. It was a 15 day trip of India's desert state. Most of the cities we visited were well connected with national highways, providing us the easy accessibility of various places. However, some areas were congested making for us difficult to reach on time that may be because of development works on going on places. We loved our heritage hotel stays at Jaipur and Udaipur. We enjoyed the excursions of remote villages and desert. Good execution of trip.
