Jodhpur Nagaur Fair

The second largest fair in the country, Nagaur Fair or Jodhpur Nagaur Fair lasts for eight days and is held in Jodhpur. An annual event, the fair falls in the month of Jan or Feb. Nagaur Fair is also popular as Cattle Fair of Nagaur as the occasion sees massive trading of animals. The event sees the animals colorfully decorated and the owners dressed up in colorful turbans and sporting long moustaches. Some of the other items traded in the fair include wooden pieces, iron crafts, camel leather accessories etc. Mirchi Bazar or Red Chilli Market (largest red chilly market of India) is another great attraction of the place.

The event also sees the hosting of a number of sporting events like tug of war, camel race, bullock cart race, bird fight etc. The fair is also popular for jugglers, puppeteers, story tellers etc. the presence of whom really makes the event a lively affair.

Apart from what it is famous for Nagaur Fair offers a range of other entertainments also. Take for instance the 800 year old Ahhichatragarh Fort which is a perfect example of Mughal and Rajput architecture. The event also sees the recital of folk music with enchanting melodies whereas the folk dancers perform such lively and traditional dance forms which include Ghair, Ghoomar etc.

Nagaur Fair holds a very important position in Rajasthan and attracts a large number of tourists from around the world who all converge in Nagaur to catch a glimpse of the lively fair. The fair also gives the tourists a wonderful opportunity to catch a glimpse of the rural life of Rajathan and witness what rural Rajasthan is like. The visitors not only can freeze the memorable events in their camera for posterity but can also buy souvenirs for their friend and relatives back home.
