Mewar Festival Udaipur

Mewar Festival Udaipur

Mewar Festival is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm in Rajasthan and is a symbol of the arrival of spring. Though the festival witnesses tremendous excitement in the entire state yet its celebration is special in Udaipur. Udaipur has traditionally remained the center of Mewar Kingdom and as such the festival has special flavors of the place. Mewar Festival of Udaipur is amongst one of the major festivals of Rajasthan and is popular in the entire country for its spunk and sparkle.

For the time the festival is celebrated the entire city of Udaipur seemed to be in the grip of festival mania. The markets and the shop of the city are tastefully decorated and attractively decked up. Mewar Festival coincides with Gangaur Festival and is equally important for the womenfolk who contribute greatly in the festivity.

The occasion witnesses the congregation of women who assemble and dress the idols of Lord Isar (Lord Shiva) and Gangaur (Goddess Parvati). They then carry the idols in a conventional procession that moves through different parts of the city. By end the procession heads towards Gangaur Ghat at Pichola Lake and are carried in special boats before being immersed in the water.

Once the religious aspects of the festival are done away with the staging of dance, music and other cultural activities take over which reveals the cultural heritage of Rajasthan. The festival comes to an end with a sparkling display of fireworks which light up the sky. Mewar Festival attracts tourists from far and wide who all come to take part in this lively festival which has made a permanent place in the colorful landscape of Rajasthan.

Testimonial

I booked a travel package of Rajasthan for me and my friend. It was a 15 day trip of India's desert state. Most of the cities we visited were well connected with national highways, providing us the easy accessibility of various places. However, some areas were congested making for us difficult to reach on time that may be because of development works on going on places. We loved our heritage hotel stays at Jaipur and Udaipur. We enjoyed the excursions of remote villages and desert. Good execution of trip.
