Bikaner Camel Safari

The attractive city of Bikaner plays host to the magnificent Camel Festival. Organized by the state's tourism department the event showcases the importance of camels in the desert. The festival itself runs for the duration of two days and is held in the month of December or January.

The event gets underway with a glorious procession of bedecked camels that takes place in the backdrop of Junagarh Fort. The camels marching together in absolute sync are an epitome of grace and charm which enchants the onlookers with their splendor.

The occasion is brought to life by activities which include camel races, camel dances, and camel rides which leave the visitors enthralled. The camels are brilliantly trained and display rhythmic footwork, elegant dance and swift movement at the slightest instructions from their masters.

The place sees a great excitement amongst camel traders who come from far and wide to attend the festival. The camels on display are also a sight to behold. Decorated in colorful attires and with innovative use of color as well as brilliant drawings the camels are indeed a pleasant sight.

The competition amongst the camel as well as the colors, music and exuberance of those taking part in it give it a carnival like atmosphere that so abounds Rajasthan. Congregation of tribal artists excelling in different tribal's dance and folk music forms enliven the atmosphere and bring the place to life.

The festival comes to an end with the glorious fireworks that light up the sky of Bikaner. Camel festival is an important landmark of Bikaner and has today become the pride of entire Rajasthan.

It would not be out of place to mention here that Bikaner has a Camel Research Farm which carries out research on camels and is one of its type institutes in the country. It is one of the best camel breeding farms in the country and produces the best of camels.

The farm gives entry to tourists at certain specifies hours in the day where they can see the camels in their natural habitat frolicking around in group. Visitors can also enjoy a camel ride as well as ice-cream made of camel's milk!
